Fog and Fun on the farm
Wednesday, November 11th, 2009It is just a bit foggy today not just here of course but all over the country. Our particular problem is finding and counting the cattle & sheep in this weather, the pigs are easier in their paddocks. Walking up over the farm with the dogs a few deer hinds come out of the woods so quietly behind us that we nearly go on and not see them – 6 in all.
Latest arrivals are the quail (pictured) we hatched in the incubator – 19 in all – a good result. They are such tiny little yellow chicks (with stripes) that I nickname them ‘the bumble bees’.

One of the 'bumble bees'...
The newest piglets, with their sows, are glad they have the old stables to get out of the drizzle into, and they are doing well. All our pigs really enjoy the home made whole crop feed we are giving them this year.
B&B guests had fun exploring Exmoor yesterday, walking in the woods and on the moor. Today they are going to Dunster for a bit of special retail therepy and to see the castle. Charlie their chocolate lab is having great fun in the streams and rivers.
Cottage guests happy walking the farm and enjoying relaxing by the log burner – they are still trying to spot the red deer.

After walking over the farm to see our spotty pigs in the fields they tucked into our own organic and free range sausages (Exmoor Beast is our pork with a touch of chilli – also our pork and whortleberry and our lamb and coriander sausage) served on creamy mashed potato with onion gravy, shredded cabbage from our garden, and glazed carrots.
